The climate is conducive to a relaxed, outdoor way of life. In January the average temperature range is between 17oC and 32oC and in July between 3oC and 16oC.
Low humidity and an elevation of 400 - 500 meters ensures year-round comfort. The District's rainfall is ideal for most forms of agriculture, with an annual average of 650mm (26 inches). Pollution of any kind is almost non-existent.
A wide range of affordable housing is available including small and hobby farms.
In keeping with its status as the regional capital for the New England/North West, Tamworth has a wide variety of education options from pre-school to tertiary - both public and private. There are: 12 Pre-school/kindergartens; 4 special needs schools; 25 infant/primary schools and 8 secondary education are well catered for with both government and private schools - there are also two secondary schools offering boarding facilities.
Recreational pursuits are very well provided for in the City. The extensive sporting facilities include the Regional Sporting Complex, two 18-hole golf courses, a well appointed racecourse, and numerous other outdoor and indoor sporting venues. Tamworth is well known for its active role in hosting regional and state-wide sporting events.
Fishing, water sports, bushwalking, gold fossicking and many other outdoor activities can be pursued in the surrounding district.
All forms of music, theatre, dance and art enjoy excellent facilities and strong community support.
The City has an excellent selection of restaurants, several licensed clubs and a 4 theatre cinema. Service clubs and other community groups abound.A large commercial centre - most chain stores and specialty locally owned stores are represented in the District.
Tamworth is home to the hugely successful Tamworth Country Music Festival.An estimated 40,000 visitors flock to Tamworth each year for 10 days of workshops, entertainment, award ceremonies, musicians and industry networking. The festival, held in January each year, has continued to show strong growth over its 30 year history.
Tamworth, however, is not all country music - a Regional Conservatorium of Music is located in Marius Street and teaches all forms of music from classical to jazz and caters for voice and instrument tuition.
